Sounds weird doesn’t it!
But you know those times when you’re trying to come up with ideas, be creative, solve problems, and you think so hard your head hurts?
What if I told you a way to stop that hurting?
You know what, there IS a way.
To come up with those ideas, those flashes of inspiration, just stop thinking!
There’s an episode of Doctor Who where 3 doctors are all together, Tennent, Smith and Hurt, they’re stuck in a prison and they decide to use their sonic screwdriver to unlock the wooden door.
They realise that all they need to do is implant the routine in John Hurt’s sonic screwdriver and because he was the first doctor, the routine would effectively be running for hundreds of years so it can create the solution.
I’m not saying you need to let things mature in your mind for hundreds of years, but putting the initial thought into your mind then stopping thinking about it, actually gives your mind the space it needs to kind of run in the background.
In a surprisingly short amount of time, a thought, an inspiration, an idea will pop into your mind and it will be just what you wanted.
Trying to force your mind to think, can slow it down and overwhelm it. It stops your creativity and insight!
It’s like how it’s best to rest when you’re ill so your body has the energy to heal. Your mind is the same, it needs space to work well.
So yes, stopping thinking actually helps you think more effectively.
Try it!
